Hi there! My name is Maryanne – I am a long-time cat lover, and I just MIGHT be a glass addict!
My glass collecting history dates back to when I was a child – tagging along antiquing with my parents. I was allowed to get one inexpensive thing of my own on each of these trips, probably to keep me quiet. Even back then, I was drawn to glass, and acquired a ragtag collection of depression glass, cut-to-clear, cranberry glass, and mercury glass Christmas ornaments.
And glass animals. Always glass animals.
Fast forward to the 1990’s, when, as a Sheltie owner, I discovered Mosser Collies and started collecting the collies and sitting cats. At the time, Mosser was still producing and selling both, and I bought several of my early ones directly from them.
As a techie by profession, I’m a relentless researcher, a data-driven creator and kind of a geek. If I’m interested in something, I will learn as much about it as I can. To further my own glass education, I am a member of a major USA glass club. I am also a Gemological Institute of America (GIA) alumni – which may seem unrelated, but I have found that my knowledge of the chemical and physical characteristics of gemstones helps me better understand how different ingredients in a formula affect the color and other properties of glass.
I started this site (and a companion site for the collies) in 2018 as a labor of love and out of a desire to share my knowledge and the beauty of colored glass with others. I hope you find it useful!
